India's travelling records were never impressive and today at Napier it didn't get any better after India lost the first and opening one-dayer against New Zealand by 24 runs. But over the years, India's batting overseas has improved and in this match also the young batting guns came out with a positive intent.
After opting to field, India managed to keep New Zealand in check with the hosts at 171 for 4 in 36.2 overs. But then the death bowling woes came back to haunt India and skipper MS Dhoni, as the bowlers leaked 92 runs in the last 10 overs, which allowed the Kiwis to put up a competitive total of 292 for 7 in 50 overs.
